Revised: 2009-03-23

Step 1 - Create a Joblog Spool File
Step 2 - Convert the Spool File to a PC Text File
Step 3 - Send the Text File by Email

Step 1 - Create a Joblog Spool File

Skip this step if the spool file already exists, for example, if you are sending the Joblog from an ActionWare Regeneration.
Go directly to Step 2

Depending on the situation, you may need to sign on to an iSeries interactive session and reproduce the error situation, or you may already be signed on to an existing session containing the error information you want to capture.

The chgjob command below is optional, it causes extra information to be put into the joblog.
In most cases, this will help with the diagnosis, but it will generate a larger file.

To get maximum printed output from a joblog printout, enter command:
chgjob log(4 0 *seclvl) logclpgm(*yes).

If you don't need to reproduce the problem, do not perform the next few instructions, skip down to the dspjoblog command.

Enter command AW4LM to display the ActionWare Main Menu.

Select option 1 to enter the ActionWare database.

Perform whatever actions are necessary to reproduce the problem being reported.

Exit ActionWare back to the Menu, or get to a command line from within ActionWare.
(For a standard install of AW, pressing Esc F10 F10 will take you to a command line.)

On the command line, enter command:
dspjoblog output(*print)

You now have a spool file containing the joblog.

To verify this, enter command WRKSPLF. Page down if necessary to the last entry.
Use option 5 if you would like to view the contents of the spool file.

Step 2 - Convert the Spool File to a PC Text File

This step converts the spool file to a PC text file.

Sign onto the PC using the profile which created the spool file.

Launch iSeries Navigator from the iSeries Access Window.

Click on the plus sign for the appropriate iSeries.

Click on the plus sign for Basic Operations.

Click on the words Printer Output.

Identify the required spooled file in the right pane, normally it will be the last file.

Left click drag and drop it onto the Windows desktop, or to any other folder on your PC.

This is the file to be attached to an email.

Verify it is the correct file by double clicking on it. It will open in Notepad.

Make the Notepad window wide enough to be able to view all 132 columns of the joblog without truncation or line wrap.

Step 3 - Send the Text File by Email

Open Outlook Express and click on the Create Mail button.

Address it to support@actionware.com

Identify the problem in the Subject line.

Optionally, enter a message in the body of the email relating to the problem.

Click Attach. Navigate to the text file on your PC and select it.

Send the Email.

ActionWare Support personnel will contact you with the result of their investigation.
